Relationships Australia WA transfers KidCare to Gorenang Moortabiin

Established in 2007 by the late Lynthia Flowers and Angela Ryder, former Senior Manager Aboriginal Services at Relationships Australia WA, the outreach service operated from the Tambellup Aboriginal Progress Association (TAPA) building and focused on reducing the levels of family violence and supporting the wellbeing of local families. The service subsequently expanded to include a group in Katanning.

Danielle Newport, CEO of Relationships Australia, said the decision was a result of funding changes and followed extensive consultation with local Elders and local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisastions (ACCOs)

“Funding guideline changes introduced on 1 July 2024 meant that the program no longer fit the eligibility criteria for our organisation. It became clear we needed to find a local ACCO to carry the program forward.”

“This program has a proud legacy. While we are saddened to end our involvement, we are confident KidCare will continue to deliver meaningful outcomes for the community under new management.”

Throughout our discussions and negotiations, our top priority was to ensure the program’s sustainability, so that local families can continue to access support for many years to come. We are very grateful to everyone in the community who supported our consultation including TAPA and Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation, who both continue to support Central Great Southern communities.”

KidCare provides a safe and confidential space to address children’s behavioural problems, and social and emotional trauma which impacts on their ability to learn at school. The family service aims to promote well-being from early childhood to school readiness through partnerships with local service providers.

Paula Foenander, CEO Gorenang Moortabiin Aboriginal Corporate said:

Gorenang Moortabiin Aboriginal Corporation extends its deepest thanks to Relationships Australia WA for the incredible support it has given to the KidCare program. It’s a privilege for us to walk alongside this program and be part of its continuing journey in the Central Great Southern.

“We are truly honoured to continue this meaningful work. KidCare has made a lasting difference in the lives of many, and we’re committed to carrying that legacy forward with care, respect, and strong connection to community. We look forward to walking together with families to provide support that is trusted, culturally safe, and grounded in our shared values.”
