We were honoured to welcome Assistant Minister Patrick Gorman, special guests and staff to the official opening of the Perth Family Relationship Centre’s (FRC) new location.
The launch event, held on Thursday October 20, showcased the new facilities that enable us to support families in a safe and professional way. More than 60 people joined us to celebrate, including attending a tour of the building located on St George’s Terrace.
The new building features:
- 10 clinical rooms, including one child-focused room
- Separate arrival and departure areas
- Improved accessibility for people with disability, including larger rooms
Assistant Minister Gorman said it was a privilege to join the team at the Perth Family Relationship Centre as they opened their new facilities.
“The Centre is now purpose built for its’ incredibly important purpose and will serve the community well," he said.
Relationship Australia WA’s Perth FRC has been supporting families who are separated, separating, or in dispute to improve their relationships and make arrangements in the best interests of their children since 2008.
The centre uses a child-focused approach, aiming to shift parental thinking from being combative to co-parenting. Staff, who include mediators, child-centred practitioners, family mediation coaches and an Aboriginal case worker, are highly skilled professionals who have experience working with families and are also trained in trauma and Family and Domestic Violence (FDV).
2021/2022 overview
- 6,000 clients
- 2,100 new clients including 254 CaLD clients and 85 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients
- 6,491 sessions
- 70% of clients created parenting plans or property agreements (avoiding court)
Relationships Australia WA also operates the Bunbury FRC, with outreach provided in Busselton, Manjimup, Margaret River and Albany. All Relationships Australia WA’s FRCs are funded by the Federal Government.
