In early November, Peel Senior Relationship Service (PSRS) took over the home of Peel Thunder at David Grays Arena to raise awareness of Elder Abuse.
Experts in elder abuse prevention, legal pathways, and those with lived experiences shared their valuable insights with community members and industry stakeholders at the Elder Abuse...Where to from here? event.
PSRS Case Manager Margaret Chisakula, who worked with the team to organise the event said it was a resounding success.
“[The event] was well received by all attendees, with lots of emotion and support being shown for our lived experience victim survivor,” she said.
“Her story and courage really hit home for a lot of people and helped to solidify the message that Elder Abuse is not ok.”
“The day also highlighted the far-reaching impacts it has on older people, their families and the wider community.”
Officially opened by the Mayor of Mandurah Rhys Williams, the event drew a large crowd eager to learn about this critical issue.
Both community members and stakeholders provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, highlighting the event's impact and importance.
Elder abuse can happen in any type of family or relationship. It can be financial, emotional or psychological, physical, sexual or neglect. To find out more about Elder Abuse and how to spot the signs, speak to our Peel Senior Relationship Service or download our poster.
