New Child Contact Service in Midland

Relationships Australia WA is opening a new Child Contact Service (CCS) in Midland in January.

Midland is Relationship Australia WA’s fourth Child Contact Service location, joining Fremantle, Gosnells and Mandurah.

The service aims to help children to maintain safe and positive relationships with parents and other family members that they do not live with, following separation.

Manager of Relationships Australia WA’s Child Contact Service, Teresa Giannini, said the service provides a supportive way for children to move between separated parents with supervised changeovers and also provides support to maintain positive relationships with the parent or family members they do not live with through supervised visits.

“When parents separate, it is important for children to remain connected with significant people in their lives. Research shows this has a positive impact on both their well-being and development,” she said.

“We work with parents to help them meet their orders or agreements and to ensure they are putting the interests of their children first.”

Relationships Australia WA’s staff take a child-focused approach and provide separate intake assessment interviews in a comfortable and secure location.

The Child Contact Service is independent from the Family Court of WA and the Federal Circuit Court.

Over time, the Child Contact Service aims to help parents develop their own ways of managing contact and transfer arrangements that are safe and in the best interests of their children.

Child Contact Service is funded by the Australian Government's Department of Social Services.
