Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day which is an important time for all Australians to show their support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
This year the theme is ‘My Dreaming, My Future’, celebrating the fact that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children carry with them the songlines of their ancestors and culture, passed down by generations. Their Dreaming is part of their history, while their futures are their own to shape.
Our Djinda Service team, who work to support women and children who have experienced family violence, created some cultural activity packs to share with the children of families they are currently assisting. The packs included activity sheets from the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care, stickers, bouncy balls, blowing bubbles and a beautifully illustrated pictured book titled Family from Magabala Books.
We hope these activity packs being some joy to the children and help support their spiritual and cultural wellbeing.
