February 13 marks the seventeenth anniversary of the pivotal National Apology to the Stolen Generations.
On this day in 2008, the Australian Government formally recognised the deep trauma caused by the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families. While the apology was an important step towards reconciliation through Historical Acceptance, the injustices of the past continue to affect survivors, their families, and communities today.
Seventeen years on Yorgum Healing Services invites those who were or know someone who was directly impacted by the Stolen Generations to join a reflection on the journey since the National Apology.

The Importance of Truth Telling
The Healing Foundation shares the story of Aunty Julie Black, a Barkindji woman who was taken from her mother shortly after birth. Her heartbreaking yet courageous journey is a powerful reminder that behind the policies there are children and families seeking healing.
We commemorate this apology to ensure its meaning remains alive—not just through words, but through meaningful action. Healing is ongoing, and we must continue working together for real change for survivors and their descendants.
