Community development officer Andre Cannavo said being a Father can be one of the most important roles a man will ever play.
“Research has shown that fully engaged fathers positively influences his child’s development emotionally, psychologically and physically from birth onwards,” he said.
“International Men’s Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the men in our lives and to celebrate the diversity of the Australian Dad.”
Supporting Men in Mandurah
Men supporting themselves to be mentally healthy is of great importance. In WA, and particularly in the Mandurah area, Dads can be socially isolated from other Dads, and common stresses include job losses, wage stagnation and relationship and family difficulties.
For men who are dealing with these stresses, there can be a range of feelings and associated thoughts, and they might feel like they don’t know what to do to deal with such thoughts and feelings, or how to have a place with family and friends.
Relationships Australia WA’s 4Dads program supports Dads who may experiencing these challenges and need support in having an involved and engaged relationship with their children. It is important for Dads to know that being separated doesn't mean they are less important, or needed by their children.
The 4Dads program offers free information, education, referrals and support for fathers of children up to 18 years in the Mandurah and Pinjarra areas. Contrary to popular belief, we don’t always know automatically what to do as a parent. Join other Dads of children aged up to 18 years to build skills to assist your child to be positive, flexible and assertive. To find out more visit the 4Dads page here.
