Relationships Australia WA has been funded by the Australian government to provide a free, independent counselling for anyone in Western Australia affected by or engaging with the Disability Royal Commission (DRC).
The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (DRC) was established on 4 April 2019 and will run for three years. It will look at ways to protect people with disability from experiencing violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston said almost $140 million would be invested in advocacy and counselling support, as well as legal assistance services, “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to access support if they choose to participate in the Disability Royal Commission at any point over the next three years,” Minister Ruston said.
Relationship Australia WA's Counselling and Support for People Affected by the Disability Royal Commission provides medium term client focused counselling for people with disability who have suffered violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation, their parents, guardians, or other family members, carers or others who have been affected.
Trauma-informed Counsellors provide professional counselling, supported referrals to appropriate specialised services and information about other useful services.
